Domestic pet transport FAQs

Preparing domestic pets for interstate air travel involves several essential steps, including:

  • If your pet is a young puppy or kitten, over 12 years old, or a brachycephalic breed, make sure they’re up to date on vaccinations and have a current health certificate from a licensed vet.
  • Familiarise them with their travel container, and pack essentials such as food, water, and comfort items.
  • Discuss any specific travel needs or concerns with our team to ensure a smooth journey.

For pet travel on domestic flights (even for international flights), your travel container should provide enough space for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. It should also be well-ventilated and secure. Most airlines actually advise against containers with extra room, as these can affect your pet’s safety during turbulence. Check out our travel container page here or chat with one of our experienced staff to select the appropriate size and type of container to ensure the safety and comfort of your four-legged friend.

Each state may have different regulations regarding pet travel, including specific health check certifications and vaccination requirements. We can help you with the interstate regulations and fulfilling all necessary paperwork – it’s all part of our interstate pet transport services!

There are some airlines that have restrictions on dog breeds, such as brachycephalic (i.e. pugs and French bulldogs), due to their respiratory issues. It’s best to get in touch with us to discuss your pet prior to booking flights so we can organise the most appropriate airline.

No, pets don’t travel in the passenger cabin. They fly in the aircraft’s dedicated pet cargo hold, which is temperature-controlled, pressurised, and designed to keep them safe and comfortable throughout the journey..
