Flying With Your Pet in the Cabin

Virgin Australia now have a pets-in-cabin service, booked directly with them. You can take your small cat and dog on selected routes (currently Melbourne, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Adelaide) from $149 per flight. Pets and their carrier weight must be under a combined 8kg to qualify.

Breed and Age Requirements

If you’re planning travel for your four-legged friend, Virgin Australia does have some breed and age requirements. 

Brachycephalic breeds (French Bulldogs, Persians and similar) need special procedures and must be booked through an approved pet transport company, which is where we come in! 

We help you source a vet certificate for your pooch, as well as checking age requirements. Typically, dogs must be at least 12 weeks old to travel, but Virgin Australia allow travel from 8 weeks with a vet certificate.

Your travel container should provide enough space for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably. It should also be well-ventilated and secure. Yes, but pets fly in the cargo hold, not the cabin. We’ll coordinate flights to align with your own wherever possible. Talk about the temperate and lighting in here. I think you have worded this somewhere before.

Yes. Virgin does not fly brachycephalic breeds (like French Bulldogs or Persians) but there are procedures around these breeds, with the min age being 12 weeks and there are handling requirements at the departure and arrival of these breeds. It’s best to get in touch with us to discuss your pet prior to booking flights so we can organise the most appropriate airline and route.
