Qantas Pet Travel

Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest domestic and international airline, among the world’s leading long-distance airlines and one of the most recognisable Australian brands. It’s no wonder that so many choose Qantas as their preferred airline for their pet’s international and domestic travel.

Qantas Pet Travel within Australia

Qantas offers travel with your pet in Australia, as well as solo pet travel. When discussing your pet’s travel journey with us, simply let us know that you would prefer to fly with Qantas, and we’ll organise a flight route and schedule that best suits you and your pet.

See Qantas’ official Australian Domestic Pet Travel Pack for more information.

International Qantas Pet Travel

Qantas strongly recommends using a specialised pet transportation company for international travel due to the complexity of customs quarantine controls. Pets travelling from Australia must meet their destination country’s government regulations and quarantine measures, which we include as part of our international flight services. Qantas international pet travel is a safe option that we gladly recommend to our customers.

AeroPets will happily arrange for your pet to fly on a Qantas aircraft. We have the experience needed to ensure the entire Qantas pet transport process is smooth and all necessities are taken care of including quarantine compliance, vet checks and pet travel containers, giving you peace of mind during your travels.

Qantas pet travel FAQs

How much does Qantas pet travel cost?

Your pet’s travel cost will depend on its size and type, the final destination and any specific requirements. Pet’s are generally categorised as priority freight or cargo, and Qantas calculates their specific cost as they would with other Qantas freight.

Are there any breeds restricted from flying Qantas?

For the safety and well-being of brachycephalic (snub-nosed/flat-faced) breeds, Qantas does have flight restrictions. Due to their compromised respiratory systems, dogs of this kind need to be booked through selected pet travel specialists (like us) due to health requirements. Qantas dog flights for brachycephalic breeds are also limited to single-sector bookings. Trips with more than one sector will need to be booked separately to ensure their comfort and reduce any potential risks during transit.

Can I travel with my pet?

Qantas will only allow your assistance dog in the passenger cabin, however, if you would like to book the same flight as your pet, please let our friendly team know so we can help organise this for you.

What does Qantas define as a pet?

When flying with Qantas, the airline defines a pet as dogs (not including racing greyhounds and banned breeds), cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, domestic fish with no aeration requirements, and domestic birds that don’t need travel permits.
