Cat transport

When it’s time for your kittens to head to their new homes, you want to know they’re in safe hands. At AeroPets, we work closely with breeders across Australia to make kitten transport as smooth, compliant, and stress-free as possible, from vet checks to crate setup to arrival on the other side.

When transport is an extension of your client’s experience with you as a breeder, you need a partner who’ll deliver with the same level of care you do, and that’s us.

Minimum age for kitten air travel

Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old to travel by plane. At this age, they’ve had time to wean, gain strength, and adjust to basic handling, making them better prepared for a short journey to their new home.

What documents do breeders need?

To book any pet transport, you’ll need to provide a fit-to-fly certificate from a licensed vet, if the kitten is between 8-12 weeks of age. This confirms the kitten is healthy, up to date with required checks, and ready for air travel.

The fit to fly certificate must be completed 14 days prior to travel.

Preparing the travel crate

A calm, secure crate setup goes a long way in making the journey easier for young kittens. Here’s what we recommend:

  • No food within 8 hours of departure (to prevent accidents mid-flight)
  • No toys or loose items
  • A soft item (like a cloth or shirt) that carries a familiar scent from their litter or carer
  • A water bowl, which will be secured in the crate and filled just before boarding

Can I send paperwork or extras with the kitten?

  • We strongly recommend not sending any important documents (like pedigree certificates or registration papers) in the crate. These are best sent via Australia Post or another secure courier/postal method.
  • Toys, treats, and bedding items are also not permitted for safety reasons.

How we coordinate with breeders and new owners

We know breeders juggle a lot, timing flights, reassuring new owners, sorting paperwork. That’s where we come in.

When you book kitten transport with AeroPets, we take care of the logistics:

  • You’ll receive a detailed booking confirmation with flight numbers, times, and addresses and the Airway Bill number (AWB) which is the booking reference number for the journey
  • We’ll call you the day before the flight to confirm pickup/drop-off details and ensure all documents are in order
  • We’ll stay in touch with the receiving party to help coordinate collection and arrival if required
