If you’re a breeder sending a puppy interstate to their new home, ensuring they arrive safe, calm, and healthy is your top priority. It’s ours too.
At AeroPets, we specialise in puppy flights and transport across Australia, working with breeders to make the process simple and stress-free.
Here’s everything you need to know about sending puppies by air.
How young can a puppy fly?
Puppies must be at least 8 weeks old before they can be transported by plane. This ensures they’re developmentally ready for travel and have had time to wean and grow.
What documents do breeders need to provide?
A fit-to-fly certificate from a vet is required for all puppy transport bookings aged between 8 to 12 weeks. This confirms the puppy is in good health and safe to fly. We cannot proceed with the booking without this certificate. The fit to fly certificate must be completed 14 days prior to travel.
Can I send paperwork or extras with the puppy?
We strongly recommend not sending any important documents (like pedigree certificates or registration papers) in the crate. These are best sent via Australia Post or another secure courier/postal method.
Toys, treats, and bedding items are also not permitted for safety reasons.
Crate setup for puppy flights
To keep the journey safe and comfortable:
- No toys (they’re a choking hazard during turbulence)
- No food within 8 hours of departure
- Include a soft item (like a t-shirt) that carries the scent of the litter or carer
- Water bowl will be attached to the crate and filled before boarding
- These crate rules help reduce anxiety and prevent delays due to soiling.
